Russell and his first wife Dora professed an "open marriage" as an adjunct to liberalism. Russell later won large damages for wrongful dismissal#Russell, who mainly made his living from lecturing and writing, was briefly the British Embassy attache in Paris#Russell was a convinced atheist. He said "When I die, I am dust," and wrote a book entitled Why I Am Not A Christian#Russell believed that "mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty, a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture". On the other hand, he also said: "Of all forms of caution, caution in love is perhaps the most fatal to true happiness."
